The Roly® Safety Gate is a mezzanine safety gate for fall protection gate around pallet drop areas on elevated platforms, mezzanines, and rack picking modules. Unlike swing gates or safety chains — which create an open fall hazard every time they are used — the Roly® safety gate uses a dual-gate system that maintains a continuous protective barrier throughout the entire pallet transfer operation. One gate is always closed at the mezzanine edge, regardless of where the load is in the cycle.
Used by hundreds of companies across a wide range of industries for over 30 years, the Roly® Safety Gate meets or exceeds OSHA 29 CFR 1910.23, IBC, and ANSI standards for fall protection at elevated platform openings.
How the Roly® Works
The Roly® uses a counterbalanced dual-gate system driven by a heavy-duty chain and sprocket mechanism. When a pallet load is being loaded into the drop area, the gate on the ledge side is open while the opposite gate is closed, providing an enclosed pallet drop area. When the pallet load is ready to be picked, the ledge gate closes, providing employees access to the material. The mezzanine edge is never fully open.
Gates close flush with the mezzanine ledge, and the system can operate independently of overhead doors. Both manual and power-operated configurations are available. Operation is designed to be ergonomic and requires no special training.
Why the Roly® Is the OSHA-Compliant Choice
OSHA 29 CFR 1910.23 requires that mezzanine openings used for material handling be protected at all times — including during active loading and unloading. A swing gate satisfies this requirement only when it is closed. Every time a worker opens a swing gate to transfer a pallet, a compliant barrier no longer exists at the edge.
The Roly®’s counterbalanced dual-gate design eliminates this compliance gap entirely. It cannot be accidentally left open, and does not add time to the transfer cycle. For EHS managers, facilities directors, and operations teams working under OSHA compliance requirements, the Roly® is the most defensible fall protection solution available for mezzanine pallet drop applications.

Industries served include distribution and fulfillment, automotive manufacturing, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, cold storage, e-commerce, and general manufacturing.
Compliance
The Roly® Safety Gate meets or exceeds:
- OSHA 29 CFR 1910.23 — Walking-Working Surfaces; fall protection at mezzanine and elevated platform openings
- ANSI standards — applicable to guardrail and fall protection systems
- IBC (International Building Code) — as applicable to elevated platform guarding
What makes the Roly® different from a swing gate?
A swing gate creates an unprotected fall hazard every time it is opened. The Roly® uses a counterbalanced dual-gate system so one side is always closed. The mezzanine edge is never fully exposed, regardless of where the load is in the transfer cycle.
Can the Roly® be used with an overhead door?
Yes. The Roly® is specifically designed to close flush with the mezzanine ledge and operate independently of overhead doors. The two systems do not interfere with each other, and the gate provides compliant fall protection whether the overhead door is open or closed.
How is the Roly® installed?
Installation is designed to be completed by a facility maintenance team. The gate ships with detailed instructions, and all mounting hardware is specified during the order process to align with the customer's mezzanine structure. No welding is required for standard installations. For complex or multi-gate configurations, installation services can be scheduled.
